Aims and purpose

What are the aims and purpose of our curriculum?

This curriculum builds pupils into confident, knowledgeable users of the subject. We establish foundational knowledge first, then layer increasingly demanding skills on top, so every pupil gets a solid base.

Curriculum principles

What principles inform the design of our curriculum?

Knowledge and vocabulary rich. Knowledge is the foundation of understanding, and subject-specific vocabulary is the most important kind of knowledge. We name explicitly the words every pupil needs to learn.

Sequencing

How are lessons sequenced?

Each lesson builds on the one before. Units are ordered so smaller ideas accumulate into a bigger one, which is what helps pupils retain and apply what they've learned.

Coherence

How do subjects connect to each other?

Subjects are not isolated. The maths learned in Year 4 supports the science taught in Year 6. We surface those links so teachers can draw on them.

Subject-specific needs

How do we meet a range of needs?

Every lesson has a full transcript, a downloadable video, and multiple quality levels so it works on a slow connection and a cheap device.
