Alred Noyes uses figurative language to hook the reader in and create atmosphere in stanza one.
Repetition can be used to emphasise a particular word, sentence or phrase.
Personification is when a non-human thing is given human characteristics.
Metaphor is when one thing is described as another; simile involves using 'like' or 'as' to compare two things.
Alliteration is when two or more words begin with the same starting sound or letter.
