I can learn new rules to spell words when adding the suffix -ing.

When -ing is added to the end of a word, it can show the past tense or the present tense.
If the root word has a short vowel and a single consonant, the consonant letter is doubled when the suffix is added.
If the verb ends in a "y", just add "-ing".
