Show transcript
All syllables are sounded fairly equally in French words, but there is usually a slight emphasis on the last syllable. -ir verbs like ouvrir have the same present tense verb endings as regular -er verbs: e, es, e, ons, ez, ent. The pronouns 'ils' and 'elles', meaning 'they', can refer to people or things. The pronoun 'vous', meaning 'you', can refer to one person (formally) or more than one person (formally or informally). Context and surrounding lanuage clarify the correct meaning of ils, elles and vous.
