The imperative is used in a wide range of scenarios such as recipe instructions, job adverts and giving commands. Using the imperative in conversation enables the speaker to give instructions and advice. In a role-play scenario it is important to consider who you are talking to, and whether to use the 'tu' or 'vous' form. Planning a speaking task answer carefully, pre-rehearsal, and immediate repetition of the task improve performance.
