[é/er/ez] is pronounced as in 'écrire'. Some adjectives follow different patterns. 'Naturel' is 'naturelle' in the feminine form and 'heureux' is 'heureuse'. There are many cognates in French which can be used to infer meaning of surrounding words and understand context. Cognates may look very similar to English but sound quite different so attention must be paid to pronunciation.
