Show transcript
The SSC (sound-symbol correspondence) [r] is pronounced as in 'rue'. 'Please' in French is 's'il te plait' or 's'il vous plait', thank you is 'merci'. Use 's'il te plait' with family and friends your own age and 's'il vous plait' with adults outside of your family. The plural definite article (the) is 'les'. There is a liaison after 'les' with plural nouns that begin with a vowel. When giving an opinion about something in French, we often use the definite article: le, la, l’, les: j'adore les chats.
