Coastal areas are often tourist hotspots due to the landscape and range of activities possible. Tourism can bring economic benefits to coastal regions, but it can also lead to social and environmental problems. Cruise ships carry tourists around the world for weeks or even months at a time. In 2021, Venice, Italy, banned cruise ships from entering the city's waters declaring her lagoon a national monument.
