I can use Ordnance Survey maps to identify some reasons my local town grew and compare it to another town I know.

Some early settlements grew from villages into towns and cities, through trade or because of the goods they produced. During the industrial revolution, some towns and villages grew into cities because factories developed. OS maps and aerial photographs reveal clues about why towns have grown and developed. Geographers compare places by analysing their similarities and differences
