Show transcript
The vowels [a], [o] and [e] can be pronounced long as in 'gezogen' or short as in 'gewonnen'.
Strong verbs form past participles by adding 'ge-' and '-en' around the verb stem, e.g. 'gelesen'. Others are irregular.
To form a closed question in the perfect tense, swap the position of 'haben' or 'sein' with the subject.
For open questions in the perfect tense, place a question word before 'haben' or 'sein'; the subject follows.
The past participles 'gefallen' and 'gemocht' both mean 'liked'. Use indirect object pronouns with 'gefallen'.
