Show transcript
The prefix 'da-' is added to prepositions to refer back to something already mentioned and avoid repetition of the noun.
We use da-compounds for inanimate nouns. We use direct object pronouns for people and animals.
We use wo-compounds to ask questions with verbs that take prepositions.
'Wo' and 'da' become 'wor' and 'dar' before prepositions starting with a vowel.
The consonantal [r] makes a rolling sound at the back of the throat and the vocalic [r] has a gentle ‘ah’ sound.
