I can use place value to round a 4-digit number to the nearest thousand, the nearest hundred and the nearest ten.

Identify the next and previous multiples of 10, 100 or 1,000 to the number on a number line.
If the value of the digit you are looking at is 5 or more you round to the next multiple.
If the value of the digit you are looking at is less than 5 you round to the previous multiple.
