I can understand accounts of moving to a new country including 'estar' in the imperfect tense and the relative pronoun 'que'.

Use 'estar' to mean 'to be, being' for a mood, state or location.
Use 'estaba' to mean 'I was' for a mood, state or location in the past.
Use 'estabas' to mean 'you were' for a mood, state or location in the past.
Relative pronouns can be used to give extra information about someone or something e.g. 'who' or 'that'.
In Spanish, you can use the word 'que' to mean both 'who' and 'that'.
