I can use ‘hay’ and ‘tener’ to describe what there is around me.

The SSC [qui] sounds as in 'equipo'. ‘Hay’ means ‘there is' and 'there are’, and like ‘tiene’ can be used to describe places. Sentences with ‘hay’ often start with ‘en’.
