I can understand ‘soy’ and ‘eres’ when talking about where people are from.

The vowel sounds [a] [e] [i] [o] and [u] can be practised by reading aloud short rhymes. The verb ‘ser’ means 'to be, being' when talking about where people are from. ‘Eres’ means ‘you are’ when talking about where you are from.
