Show transcript
The 'e' at the end of the word makes no sound (SFE - Silent final e). The consonant before a SFe is pronounced: timide. 'Avoir' means to have: j'ai (I have), tu as (you have), il a (he has), elle a (she has). These are its singular forms. In English, adjectives come before the noun. In French, most adjectives go after the noun (postnominal adjectives). Adjectives must agree with the gender of the noun they describe. We often add an -e in the feminine form: vert - verte. Some adjectives, like rapide, end in an e in both the masculine and feminine forms: une voiture rapide.
