Show transcript
The SSCs [a] and [ai] sound different. The sound [a] is pronounced as in 'banane', [ai] is pronounced as in 'vrai'.
The verb 'aller' means 'to go, going'. 'Je vais' is 'I go, I am going' and 'tu vas' is 'you go, you are going'.
To say 'to (the) ...' use 'au' before a masculine noun, 'à la' before a feminine noun and 'à l'' before a vowel or 'h'.
To make a yes/no question clear, we can add 'est-ce que' (‘is it that …?) at the start of any statement.
To ask a ‘where’ question, we can add 'où est-ce que' (‘where is it that …?’) at the start of any statement.
