The preterite-tense forms of 'ir' ('to go') for 'I', 'you' and 'she, he, it' are 'fui', 'fuiste' and 'fue'.
A preterite-tense form of 'ir' + a + infinitive means 'went to' + infinitive. It expresses what someone went to do.
[j] is pronounced as in 'ejemplo' and [gu] is pronounced as in 'pregunta'.
