Show transcript
If a Spanish word has final syllable stress, and ends in a vowel or -n/-s, there will be an accent on the last vowel. The verb 'ir' is irregular and means 'to go'. 'I go' is 'voy', 'you go' is 'vas' and 'she, he, it goes' is 'va'. In the preterite tense the singular forms of 'ir' are: 'fui' (I went), 'fuiste' (you went) and 'fue' (she, he, it went). 'To' is 'a' in Spanish; before a feminine noun 'to the' is 'a la', before a masculine noun it is 'al'. To create some Spanish adverbs from adjectives you take the feminine form (ending in -a) and add -mente on the end.
